But why? Rush Limbaugh is right: he has been markedly
critical of Christianity and has repeatedly and effusively praised
Islam. So why did he become a Christian at all?
This is aside from the widespread suspicion that he is or was a
Muslim, which is based as much on his statements and policies as
President as it is on the fact that his father and stepfather were
Muslims and that he says in his first autobiography that he got in
trouble as a child for making faces in Qur’an class, which Christian
children did not attend.
Whether or not one thinks he was ever a Muslim,
the question Rush raises is intriguing — if he wasn’t one, and he loves
Islam so much, why didn’t he become one? Was it just for political
