In a barbaric act, a 23-year-old Hindu woman has been brutally
murdered by two Muslim youth after she refused to convert to Islam after

woman in a forest area near Preet Nagar under the Chopan police station
area. The police officials said that the father of the deceased,
Laxminarayan, identified the deceased as Priya Soni from her shoes and

The father of the deceased informed the police that her
daughter Priya had married a Muslim youth named as Ejaz Ahmed against
the wishes of the family about a month and a half ago. According to the
father of the deceased, Ejaz was pressuring her to convert to Islam, to
which she disagreed.
The police officials have said that Ejaz
had kept her at a lodge in the Obra area and was continuously
pressurising her to convert to Islam. As the Hindu girl refused to
convert, the angry Ejaz called upon another friend Shoaib Akhtar. The
two Muslim youth carried Priya to a nearby forest area and killed her.

COMMENT | Readers of my column understand that I despise any kind of state initiatives to foster āpatriotismā in young people. What
the state attempts to do has nothing to do with āpatriotismā, which is
an odious concept to begin with, but to instil propaganda in young
people so that they would support systems which maintain the political
class of the country.
Of course, the Perikatan Nasional (PN)
government would want to revive ānational serviceā, which was the most
hair-brained scheme of the government that came up with it. It is
pointless going over the deaths, mismanagement, cronyism and corruption
scandals that mired this government experiment in its original
iteration because this would mean we would also have to wade through the
various other state propaganda organs that hamper the intellectual and
emotional development of young people in this country.
These
programmes exist to brainwash young people into thinking that the
government is a benign entity that should be supported because ā
depending on the quality and efficacy of said programmes ā governments
bring some sort of benefit to their lives. Whatever they receive in
terms of experience or skill sets is built upon a foundation of
propaganda. This propaganda worms its way into young people and
they conflate political parties with the independent institutions of
government. They do not think of government institutions as independent,
but rather as an extension of political parties. They may not
articulate it as such, but it is all there in how they express what they
think of the government and its role.

ā Armed Muslim militants attacked Catholics in the village of
Ichhachhara in northeastern Bangladesh earlier this month, wounding
faithful and desecrating their church ā smashing windows and destroying
books and other religious items.
Sources tell Church Militant the assault stems from a Sept. 21
incident in which Muslim Rafiq Ali, using fake documents, illegally
seized farmland from local Catholic Josper Amlorong. Amlorong reported the land grab to authorities, and on Nov. 9, police evicted Ali from the stolen parcel.
But that evening, after law enforcement had left Ichhachhara, Ali ā
an influential leader from the nearby village of Tatriuli ā returned,
backed by dozens of Muslim supporters, and launched his attack. Now, the districtās Christians are living in fear, worried their lives are at risk. āAli and his people forcibly entered my property and took possession
of it,ā Amlorong told Church Militant. āThey threatened my life. They
told me to leave the land. It is my only piece of land.ā
Amlorong is a member of the mainly Christian Khasi tribe. Like most
Khasis, his betel leaf garden is the sole source of income for his
family. āIf I lost my land, I couldnāt live,ā said Amlorong, who has been
battling cancer for the past three years. āWithout treatment, I will
die.ā āBeing I am Christian, Ali thought I am weak, but I will not leave my land until I draw my last breath,ā he vowed. Amlorong noted that Ali and his cohort damaged many betel leaf plants
during their occupation. āI lost BDT 500000 (roughly $6,000) when my

Ex-armed forces chief wants liquor sale ban rescinded, questions motive

armed forces chief General (Rtd) Hashim Mohd Ali has come out in
opposition to the ban on the sale of liquor at sundry shops, grocery
stores, convenience stores and Chinese medicine shops from October next
year by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Voicing his support for the statement
by Persatuan Patriot Kebangsaan President Brig-General (Rtd) Mohamed
Arshad Raji, Hasim said that while it is not his business to promote
alcohol consumption, the government must respect the rights of
non-Muslims as we live in a multi-religious country and for many
generations, there have been no problems on the sale of liquor from
these outlets.
"The Malaysian armed forces is also multiracial and
consist of both Muslims and non-Muslims. The open purchase and drinking
of liquor for non-Muslim officers and soldiers from the Pernama
(Malaysian Armed Forces Trading Corporation) stores have never been a
problem. "In fact, it allows the senior officers to monitor the
purchase and drinking behaviour of non-Muslim armed forces personnel
under their watch," said Hashim in a statement today.
"There
have been no local studies and evidence whatsoever to suggest that the
sale of liquor from such outlets has been linked to the problem of drink
driving or even health. "There are far more harmful things, such
as cigarettes, that are being sold from these outlets and there must be
no double standards involved in coming out with such a policy to curb
the sale of liquor.
"Furthermore, the last thing that our economy
needs in this or the post-pandemic crisis is further curbs on legitimate
business activities," said Hashim who is also president of the Chiefs'
Circle made up of retired armed forces chiefs. "What is even more
alarming is that PAS' Ahmad Marzuk Shaary, the deputy minister in Prime
Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) has stated that the ban may be
extended to other states.
Federal
Territories Minister Annuar Musa had said that the new guidelines in
regards to liquor licences were made after conducting surveys on
guidelines used in other countries prior to implementation here. "I
would just like to remind ministerial newbies not to be blindly
overzealous in enforcing their religious beliefs on Malaysians of other
faiths. "That in itself is against the fundamental tenets of
Islam which commands Muslims in authority to protect the rights and
liberties of non-Muslims under their care," said Hashim.
He
called upon the authorities concerned to rescind the liquor ban as it
may undermine the spirit of the Rukun Negara, national unity and the
cultural harmony that has been enjoyed between Muslims and non-Muslims.

When Malaysians ask me whether there is any hope for this country, I am at pains to tell them honestly what I think. The academic part of me sees absolutely no hope while the citizen and spiritual part of me lights a small flicker of fire that is slightly stronger than a flint.
Watching this new government and the majority of one race supporting it making major changes and implications within only a span of nine months sealed whatever fate towards justice for all Malaysians. I was most shocked that after so many decades of BN rule that saw the majority of one race (but it was 'balanced' by other races) making policies during the first six decades of governance, the accumulative actions of the BN is eclipsed in total by this young new coalition of desperado politicians.
That actually is not as shocking as the support it holds among educated and highly educated followers of one particular race and religion. Islam, that was once lauded to be the change agent of race issue now is a weapon of conservatism and institutionalized 'extremism'. Muslims are taught to hate and despise alcohols, transgenders, adultery, progressive ideas, kafirs and non-halal products. Muslims are encouraged to support corrupt leaders, leaders who have commit crimes of murders and kidnappings by arguing that all these are either small sins or that all these acts were done to protect Islam.
I have seen not only how Muslims around the world act in issues of IS killings, I have also read sermons that made me conclude that we have fallen in a deep hole that has no end. An abyss of bigotry, ignorance and arrogance that will divide societies and has no where to go but serious social conflicts.
Many of my fellow Malaysians keep pointing fingers at politicians as the culprit of our present predicament. I have told them many times that the politicians cannot start a blazing fire of hatred and mistrust if there were no kindling to burn. In Malaysia, the school, university and religious education curriculum have prepared that kindling in a way that it is the driest and can catch fire even with a small and minute speck of hot ash.
There is nothing for Malaysia in the next century but to be burnt again and again. Civil society thinks it is making a difference by making statement after statement to remind about justice for all, but their 'freedom of speech' action drives one race closer together to protect that race and religion from kafirs and liberals. The narrative is set.
I have 25 years of evidence to show that Malaysia has no hope if there is no game changing direction that is properly structured and strategized by the people. The civil servants will not help because they are part of the one race set to rule all at whatever cost. The public universities that thrive on Malaysian's tax money with their so called research centers for better ethnic relation or progressive Islam contribute nothing to our social and political dilemma. In fact some of them, or even all of them contribute to the escalation of the problem. I have seen the silence of these centers when racial and religious conflicts erupt.
I see silence when extremist acts are perpetrated. Yes, these centers may produce some interesting journal papers but none reach the public. An excellent paper I read once by several Malay academics proving the extremist methodology of Zakir Naik never reached the public perhaps because the authors fears backlash from Malay Muslim groups.
Academic truth matters little in public universities especially if it goes against the policies and attitudes of the sitting government. Public university leadership cares not for students or academics but their own personal climb up the greasy pole of titles and lucrative appointments. Forget the universities as they are not the force that can change Malaysia.

calling for the international equivalent of their own blasphemy laws,
which ban any critical or offensive talk against Islam and its prophet
Muhammad, often on pain of death.
Although the recent beheading
of a French teacher who showed a Charlie Hebdo cartoon of the prophet
of Islam in the context of free speech occasioned this latest demand, in
fact, Muslim calls to criminalize free speech against Islam regularly
flare out whenever Muslims kill Westerners in the context of exercising
their rights to free expression.
For example, in 2015, after Muslim gunmen killed 12 people at
Charlie Hebdo offices for publishing the same satirical caricatures of
Muslim prophet Muhammad, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC),
the ācollective voice of the Muslim worldā and second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations, calledāand is again predictably callingāfor
the United Nations to criminalize āblasphemyā against Islam, or what it
more ecumenically calls, the ādefamation of religions.ā
Yet the OIC, Al Azhar, and countless other Muslim groups and
individuals seem to miss the grand irony: if international laws would
ban free speech, cartoons, books, and films on the basis that they
defame Islam, they would also, by logical extension, have to ban the
entire religion of Islam itselfāthe only religion whose core texts
actively and unequivocally defame other religions, including by name.
What, then, do we do with Islamās core religious textsābeginning with
the Koran itself, which slanders, denigrates and blackens the
reputation of other religions? Consider Christianity alone: Koran 5:73
declares that āInfidels are they who say God is one of three,ā a
reference to the Christian Trinity; Koran 5:72 says āInfidels are they
who say God is the Christ, [Jesus] son of Maryā; and Koran 9:30
complains that āthe Christians say the Christ is the son of God ā¦ may
Godās curse be upon them!ā
Considering that the word āinfidelā (kafir) is not only Islamās most derogatory term,
but sharia requires Muslims to subjugate or kill infidels, what if a
Christian book or Western cartoon appeared declaring that āInfidels are they who say Muhammad is the prophet of Godāmay Godās curse be upon themā?
If Muslims would consider that a great defamation against Islamāand
they would, with the attendant rioting, murders, etc.āthen by the same
standard it must be admitted that the Koran defames Christians and
Christianity.

slow erosion of our liberties. On tolerance, preached but not often

now in short supply in many law schools, and in the broader academic
community. When I speak with recent law school graduates, what I hear
over and over is that they face harassment and retaliation if they say
anything that departs from the law school orthodoxy.
