The Muar MP’s counsel Haijan Omar confirmed this to Malaysiakini when contacted this afternoon. The lawyer said that his client’s bailor has posted the RM250,000 bail at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court this afternoon.
His supporters have since cried intimidation and targeted prosecution ahead of the Parliament sitting this week.
The Goat with SadDick
When the former Bersatu youth chief was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Thursday last week, he was allowed to post RM80,000 of the total RM330,000 bail on that day, and for the remainder to be posted by Tuesday this week. The next day (Friday last week), he succeeded in less than 24 hours to raise over RM715,000 to cover the remaining bail via crowdfunding.
The total amount of RM715,573.77 from 9,836 donors, as revealed by Syed Saddiq in a Facebook post, is more than double the bail amount of RM330,000 set by the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court. Syed Saddiq has claimed trial to two counts of misappropriation of funds from his former party, Bersatu.
On the first charge, he was accused of misappropriating RM1 million belonging to Bersatu on March 6, last year. On the second charge, he was accused of dishonestly misappropriating RM120,000 of funds for the 14th general election collected for Bersatu Youth, between April 8 and 21, 2018.
