No Atheists
In A Foxhole

Rudyard Kipling

" “When you're left wounded on
Afganistan's plains and

the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle

and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier”
General Douglas MacArthur

" “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.”
“Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.
“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace,
for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .”
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

“Nobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died.
Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

'No one can influence PM to advise Agong on Parliament dissolution' By B Nantha Kumar
Tuesday, October 04, 2022

Malaysiakini : Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob flexed his authority today, saying that no one can influence him in advising the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on when to dissolve Parliament.

This comes after the Umno supreme council - which he is a member of - declared last Friday that the general election should be held this year and that Ismail Sabri would be proposing a date to the Agong soon.

"The power to advise the Agong to dissolve Parliament is the prime minister's, and the Agong has the power to execute it. "In the past, the prime minister would just announce the dissolution of Parliament.

"Other parties did not give their views or interfere. Even his own party did not (interfere), or spoke to the media (about when to dissolve Parliament)," Ismail Sabri told reporters in Shah Alam today.

He said this when asked about calls from Pakatan Harapan and PAS leaders not to dissolve Parliament before October. On Harapan's memorandum of understanding with the government, Ismail Sabri said this would be nullified when Parliament is dissolved.

IndigoKiwi9570 : No one is denying that you have the power, but pls be a PM for the people. During floods you certainly don't expect the people to think about politics and go out to vote when they probably are busy saving themselves and their loved ones in the cold. Some may have to run to safety with sehelai sepinggang. We just had terrible flooding not long ago, remember?

Kilimanjaro : Yes, for now, the PM has the prerogative to advise the King when to dissolve but this can and will and shall change in view of the dynamics of political coalitions that appears to become the norm. Unlike the days of UMNO/BN where until 2008 it had the 2/3 majority and the decision of the PM in this matter is a given and it still is, the next coalition should explore, including revising the amendment of this "prerogative" power.

It doesn't make sense that a PM representing a coalition Govt would have to listen to a party he comes from instead of reaching a collective consensus of the coalition partners. It happened with Mahathir and it may happen with Ismail Sabri. It has become a necessity in the wake of UMNO's indiscretions in that what has been an accepted norm is being hijacked away by one party in a coalition for its own reasons.

It then may become ncessary in making it a constitutional requirement for a consensus to be reached among coalition partners before the PM takes it to the King. From thereon it is the King's Court that prevails. UMNO has to be careful on what it wishes for. It cannot pretend anymore that it can dominate the way it did in the past, and more so when the sort of bagggae it is carrying had diminished its value.

It may have the clout within UMNO, perceived or otherwise, but not just the dynamics but also the political landscape has changed. It may not wish to move on with the times but it most likely will be left behind to bask in a past glory.

KAJANG PRISONER : Dear PM, pls don't pretend that PH is advising or pressuring you ! You know only too well that it's your UMNO that making your life hell !

Kuniyo : "In the past, the prime minister would just announce the dissolution of Parliament. "Other parties did not give their views or interfere. Even his own party did not (interfere), or spoke to the media (about when to dissolve Parliament)," ***

In the past, the prime ministers were UMNO president who controlled UMNO supreme council, now the prime minister is a Vice President of a party whose party president has more than 40 corruption charges. That's the difference between now and then.
