An obstetrician was seriously injured in an assault on Tuesday in the southeastern province of Hakkari by the angry family of a deceased patient, Turkish media outlets reported on Tuesday.According to reports, the incident took place at Yüksekova State Hospital at 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Güllü Bülbül, 22, gave birth at the hospital, where she later died from an amniotic fluid embolism. After learning of Bülbül's death, more than 40 of Bülbül's family members went to the hospital with the intention of attacking Dr. Soner Pul, who had performed the delivery of Bülbül's child.
After Bülbül's relatives failed in their attempt, the Hakkari Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation, while her body was sent to the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for autopsy. Testimony by the doctor and family members was taken by the prosecutor, after which Bülbül's angry relatives again attacked the doctor, critically injuring him.
He was taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital where he works.According to a parliamentary commission report from April 2013, there were 4,342 cases of violence against healthcare workers reported in the last six months, and emergency room staff are the most frequent victims.
