Malaysiakini : Hearing of Najib Abdul Razak’s legal action to be allowed to attend Parliament has been postponed to Oct 19. The Kuala Lumpur High Court this morning allowed the application by the government to adjourn today’s hearing.
Federal counsel M Kogilambigai informed that the three respondents - government, home minister, and Prison commissioner-general - needed time to peruse the written submissions filed by the former prime minister’s legal team.
The legal representative from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) said that this is so that the respondents can prepare their own written submissions in response to the contentions by the Pekan MP.
apanama is back : Just strike out the application since it will be academic. Waste of time and court process. There are more priorities than his application.
hello : He is a jailed convicted felon and should stay in jail. He can only stay out of jail on the day that he is pardoned; he is still a jailed convict while applying for a pardon.
WhiteIguana0272 : Parliament is dissolved end of story.
BenHur : Sit in jail & rot. Must be lonely no companion
Coward : Isn't this application legally speaking "moot" because events had overtaken it?
Anon25 : I thought that a prison sentence deprive one of ALL liberties. But according to Shafee not so with Najib. Perhaps this hotshot lawyer should be taught some basic law.
Mujaheed : What a joke is this? Najib is a convicted criminal serving 12 yrs jail term and a big fine. He automatically looses his seat in Pekan, so why he should be allow to attend the parliment
KSK : >>"Kogilambigai added that there is no sense of urgency anymore in the matter as Parliament was dissolved two days ago." Rubbing it in! I like this woman. She deserves a raise, if not an outright promotion.
Well Thats Fantastic : Hahahaha, keep delaying until he is no longer elected member of parliament that would be exactly what he deserves from this fiasco. Can change the law to include lifetime ban for politicians found guilty of corruption?
KSK : Ordinarily under the Constitution (48.1.e), a convict or ex-convict in Najib's situation is disqualified from ever standing for election. But under the Constitution the Agong can intervene in two ways:
Read it all here for this joke, subscription required..........he can issue a pardon and he can (separately) remove the person's disqualification. There are a few complications but this is the overall picture – according to the Constitution as it stands today.
