In a statement today, PKR Women chief Fadhlina Sidek urged the government to revoke the regressive decision that could widen the gender gap in the labour market in long run.

"I deeply regret that the Taliban government banned Afghan women from pursuing their studies at the university level and condemn the policy that promotes a regressive system.

"The restriction will widen the gender gap in competition in terms of quality employment opportunities, economic and social status," she said.

Vijay47 : Whether duly elected through Western democratic norms or not, the Taliban are the de facto government of Afghanistan and they are the best authority to decide how their country is to be ruled.

As such, comments and criticism from DAP and PKR are uncalled for, particularly DAP who cannot be counted upon to be aware of how religion is practiced in certain regions like Afghanistan and even Malaysia.

As the Taliban has clearly demonstrated, the role of women in their country is subservient to the demands and needs of their men and education does not play any part in this contribution. To be more precise, women in Afghanistan best serve national interests by keeping their men satisfied at night or day as the mood may take them.

In fact their functions go further through their cleaning the rifles of Afghan warriors and sweeping the streets of flesh, bones, and other body parts resulting from occasional explosions in the marketplace. Education does not come into the picture at all.

Women would only be a temptation by their presence and distract male students from loftier ideals like learning the proper use of RPGs and the preparation of IEDs.

However, in an act of unnecessary charity, the government has permitted Afghan women to purse studies until sixth grade - this only to read instructions on C4 packages.

abcd : Strange how their version of religion can defy simple logic. Banning women from university will result in no women doctors. Of course male doctors cannot treat female patients. So in a few years time there will be no medical treatment for women in Afghanistan.
