Sheikh Al Madani's Goverment Practices Double Standards - Arrest of 2 teens over video rant on SPM paper heavy-handed

Malaysiakini  : previously reported that the teacher allegedly encouraged the student to convert to Islam, claiming it would increase his chances of becoming a national football player. The student's mother has filed a police report regarding the matter. They have yet to arrest the teacher until today.

Malaysiakini : Bloody fast in arresting two kids for their frustrated rants on the history question test paper just because a teacher lodged a police report. Our unelected and deadwood Home Minister has lost command over the police and has allowed two kids to be arrested.

Rights group Lawyers for Liberty has condemned what it described to be a "heavy-handed" approach by police against two Form Five students arrested in connection with a viral video of obscene remarks made against their SPM History paper.

LFL director Zaid Malek said the reported police raid at their homes, followed by arrest and a drug test, would have caused the two 18-year-olds and their family "extreme trauma". "And all this over a video where they vented their frustrations on their SPM History paper,” said Zaid. "Even if there were unsavoury comments uttered, it does not warrant the intervention of the police force.

It should have been a matter for the school authorities and their parents. "They were just teenagers who were being childish and they already apologised for the video, yet they were treated like hardened criminals," he added. The 36-second video on social media showed one of the teenagers in school uniform ranting against the creator of the SPM History paper and showing his middle finger.

kiwi : If MP can shout obscenities in parliament and get away with it. What more immature kids which at the spur of the moment did a stupid thing. Rule or law is there for a reason but it must be apply with sensibilities. This case shows that the authority’s only go after smaller people to show example while politician can get away with anything.

During my varsity days after the final exams I would open my window and shout whatever I wished just to feel better after that. There was no social media then.

I could have been charged a 100 times if my action was recorded. What’s wrong with having some freedom of expression?

MarioT : An incident at the school requiring own disciplinary action, is made to look like an event of national importance. Teachers of low calibre and hardened disposition, are in the wrong profession.

These boys are innocent, expressing freedom of speech/ harmless pranks, and have the right to be wrong / right to make mistakes and if any crimes was committed, counselling them is in order, but not harrass them & condemn them!! Please release them and not persecute them please!!!!

YellowCat1156 : Oh come on. How many of us were total angels when we were young? The only difference is now things can spread like wildfire over the internet,whereas long ago it was just between friends. PDRM, there are crime syndicates, drug barons, and obvious corruption that deserve your attention. Not this.
