fido : I've got to say it but Malaysia will never achieve this if (a) it does not practice tolerance - not just with minorities within its own borders (because you are always judged by what you do in your own house); and (b) beyond its borders.

Malaysia continues to bang the drum about Israel even when it is not an Islamic country (remember: it is a multi religious country where the majority practices Islam) when Islamic countries like Egypt and Turkiye have normalised diplomatic relations with Israel.

Vijay47 : Islamophobia is a word given recent impetus by Muslims themselves in an attempt to portray the followers of Islam as an innocent, oppressed community that is being bullied, harassed, and hated by the rest of the entire world.

Perhaps the Muslims should pause and ponder why despite occasional differences among other believers, there are no matching terms like Christophobia, Hindophobia, or Buddhistophobia. Maybe because these other adherents are not responsible for almost universal acts of violence, bombings, and destruction.

Anwar Ibrahim, you fervently seem to want to be regarded as a world statesman but with your selective concerns, that is a status you may achieve only among those of your thinking. Your hysterical response to the act of a madman who burned a copy of the Koran in Sweden was shocking; the desecration of any religious book would have been criticised by any right-thinking person but you took the cake.

Over one man’s offensive act. Do you think, Anwar Ibrahim, that had a Bible been similarly treated with gross disrespect, the Pope would have responded in like frenzied fashion? What would you do if a foreign Hindu or Buddhist prime minister demand that you take action against people in Malaysia who eat beef?

Since you are now in deep discussion with the OIC, it might be fitting if the first item on the agenda were research on why the practices of certain Muslims are viewed with such alarm. As a case study, you might want to look into the demands of your fellow believers in Malaysia. I am sure that every Holy Book must state somewhere “Look thee into thyself before thou condemneth another”.
