The Armenian Genocide

The Armenian Genocides of 1915 were the culmination of years of oppression against the Armenian people. Hundreds of thousands were slaughtered, in the most horrific of methods.

In this video we will cover the causes of the massacres and how so many were murdered. We will listen to the tales of victims and witnesses. We will hope to shed a little light on a genocide and encourage you to look into the horrors a little further. My Greek great grandfather, a doctor, lived in Konya, Turkey, at the time.

Because of his “high” profession he was well connected with Turkish officials and was able to get information from them about impending pogroms which he then passed on to Armenian communities who took appropriate measures. He was thus able to save many lives and many years later, the Armenian community in gratitude gifted him a Byzantine sword inscribed with a blessing on the blade.

This sword is still in my family. The pogroms were real, the Armenian genocide was real and it’s pathetic that the Turkish government refuses to acknowledge it.

I am Kurdish, and have advocated for the Armenians since I could start speaking. We are brethren in the sense that we have both had genocide committed against us at the hands of Turks. Turkey is too ashamed to admit the atrocity they committed against the Armenian people, but we remember. Thank you for talking about this.
