Perak govt denies forceful eviction of Kanthan farmers

Malaysiakini : The Perak Menteri Besar’s Office has denied that a group of farmers in Kanthan, Tambun, are being forcefully evicted as it is being done according to the law.

It said in a statement that the state government through the Perak State Development Corporation (PKNPk) had, in an attempt to resolve the 11-year-old issue, provided an alternative site in Changkat Kinding that had been gazetted as an agricultural zone.

“The state government is always committed to taking a prudent approach in resolving the issue of the claim by the group of agricultural squatters who carry out illegal agricultural activities at the site of the PKNPk’s Silver Valley Technology Park (SVTP).

“To enable the relocation process to be carried out in an orderly manner, the state government has spent over RM700,000 on providing the infrastructure, as well as the construction of terraces for plantation purposes and provision of water supply facilities at the alternative site,” read the statement.

According to the statement, a visit to the site in Changkat Kinding was held in May 2021 with the farmers involved, but only a few of them accepted the offer.

“It is very important for PKNPk as the main economic driver of Perak to realise the high-impact SVTP project to complete the plan of driving the development of the state’s industry, which is expected to provide thousands of job opportunities for the people, apart from creating new business opportunities.

“Nevertheless, as a government that is responsible and understands the constraints facing the farmers concerned, the state government, through the PKNPk,  is always open to negotiations so that a solution through the provision of an alternative site in Changkat Kinding can be realised,” he said.

Anon25 : These Tambun farmers started farming in that area when the land there was like the 'wild wild west' in the USA. Unmarked and in the junle. Even Ipoh Town could have been started arbitrarily.

So the solution today should be to give the site at Chankat Kinding to PKNP and let these farmers stay and work where they are now. Is the state government doing this because the farmers are Chinese not Malays? The MB's office can do this with the stroke of a pen. He MUST do it to protect his boss.

MS : "Is the state government doing this because the farmers are Chinese not Malays?" Of course. The Chinese may be spooked any time the Madani Man chooses. Not the Malays.

Falcon : Inexplicably supremacy of law one says, seriously? Strangely also the denial that force was used? Look at the photo above - it cries out - 'liars, liars, shameless liars!'

And it is nakedly revealing that despite the recordings and photos that have been circulated, injurious, roughshod, an assault resulting in physical injurious - this Menteri Besar's office has the audacity to cook this official statement?

Never mind, WE the minorities understand, WE are NOW persona non grata despite citizens of this land YOU have far more global, religious, racial obligations addressing manufactured crisis and problems which are non of our business!

Thankfully, those who did beat the drums for the chameleons have gone silent after witnessing how an individual hijacked an issue and attempted to propel himself into an international 'savior' but fell flat in a cloud of hypocrisy, deceit and betrayal?

Let me remind our self serving politicos - WE are NOT impressed with your speeches and your pretence neither the many masks YOU wear! Remember - Charity begins at Home! Jika tak faham ini - apa lagi?

Krabian : Anwar still busy fighting for Palestinians and spewing Gaza rhetoric. Anwar should have step in to defuse the situation. It's in his Tambun constituency.

MS : It was. Now his constituency is Gaza

Vijay47 : Is there vegetable farming in Gaza?
