Minister: No preferential 'quotas' for matric students entering public uni by Alyaa Alhadjri & Haspaizi Zain

Spinner of fairy tales (Cerita Dongeng)

Malaysiakini : PARLIAMENT | Higher Education Minister Mohamad Khaled Nordin today stressed there are no preferential “quotas” for placements in public universities through the matriculation system, as opposed to Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia holders.

In his winding-up speech of the Supply Bill 2024 committee stage debates, Khaled also said ongoing improvements are being made to the application system for placements in all public universities, polytechnics and public skills training institutes.

“The ministry has constant efforts to facilitate and maximise the number of entries into public universities and public skills training institutes based on principles of meritocracy. “This takes into account 90 percent of academic achievements and 10 percent co-curricular activities, disregarding any elements of religion, race or state,” he said.

Unicorn2046 : Preferential admission standards aside, how can STPM be on the same level as matriculation??????

Vijay47 : Just yesterday, I posted a comment complimenting Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek for her sincere unqualified apology regarding that shameful banning of 2 Tamil songs from a Deepavali celebration. Now, as though to make amends for this gesture and lest we have the wrong idea about PKR and Anwar “Hamas” Ibrahim, this Mohamad Khalid Nordin emerges to shamelessly deny that there is any discrimination or bias in the selection of students into public universities.

Yours must be of a particular level of intelligence if you expect anyone to believe your cavaliar, blatant retelling of fairytales. Gobbledygook is no substitute for hogwash. How could you without the least hesitation make a statement in Parliament that “The ministry has constant efforts to facilitate that entries into public universities and public skills training institutes are based on principles of meritocracy”? I suppose doing so must come easy for those accustomed to deceiving.

The amazing feature in your reply is that you have the nerve to even mention “Meritocracy and No Quota”! Tell me, Mohamad Khalid Nordin, by what measure do you equate 5 straight A’s with 2B’s and 3C’s? Perhaps to remove our sneers and curled lips, you could release a list of all successful applicants, showing their scholastic results and the courses to which they were accepted. Make public also a similar list of those who were rejected.

And while you are at it, let us know also those who are in universities on scholarship and others sent abroad financed by the taxes I pay. Just for the record, my daughter did her higher education on a PTPTN loan and I repaid every last damn dime of it.

But wait. I am sure you have an avid admirer in Cuepacs president Adnan Mat. Yes, the same gentleman who avers that entry into government service is founded upon merit.
