Why Fadhlina is not fit to be education minister By P Gunasegaram

Mentally Challenged

Malaysiakini : COMMENT | In 1975, following university student demonstrations led by none other than Anwar Ibrahim, the University and University Colleges Act (UUCA) was amended to stop undergraduate involvement in all political activity.

That draconian move by then-education minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad killed all thought and political discussion within local universities for the next half century and led to the reduction of societal awareness among students.

It helped produce a generation of self-absorbed, unthinking but “educated” adults interested only in their own well-being, devoid of idealism and lofty ambitions for doing good. This came from people who were politically very active during their own student days - when they fought against concepts such as the Malayan Union in the late 1940s and 1950s.

They were allowed to by the British colonialists but our own political leaders, when they came to power, shut down the development of student awareness after independence! Why? I was a student at Universiti Malaya then and remember well how we used to call ourselves high school students.

Some of the braver ones among us even wore T-shirts proclaiming “High School Pantai” across the chest in bold letters protesting the forced withdrawal of rights. Fast forward to present times, the UUCA has only been amended slightly in 2019 to allow students to participate more in politics but the promise by Pakatan Harapan in their manifesto from 2018 to abolish the Act has still not been fulfilled.

MBoleh : It is now very obvious that the education minister is totally incompetent and not fit for the job. The future of our children is doomed under an education system that has no direction. Soon we will be exporting our graduates as maids overseas.

Unspin : Anwar is not known for his vision. Almost twenty years ago when he was Education Minister, he introduced Bahasa Baku. It was so confusing for everyone then because there was nothing wrong with Bahasa Malaysia really.

If he had some vision, he could have emphasized the importance of English as a second language by, say, making it compulsory to have a pass in English before a student could move to the next grade. Considering that Fadhlina is just a glorified message router for Anwar, it is unlikely we will get anything earth-shattering from her or her populist boss.

Kilimanjaro : To simply understand what is wrong with Fadhlina and her boss Anwar is, if Hamas is a Christian outfit or any other religious outfit other than Islam, then would this screaming about humanity be there? We don't have to second guess, do we?. They are trying to twist and turn to align it around humanity but it is all about Islam.

And all those who are screaming for it to be implemented are Muslims from UMNO, PAS and Bersatu. That easily gives away. So, please don't think that NM are that stupid and the reason why NM are so opposed to this. Fadhlina comes from a constituency with a NM majority.. She won with a majority of more than 16000 votes.

Where does she think this came from? Is it from the Malays? During the next election we would be campaigning strongly against her. She is not a fit candidate to be the education minister. All we are asking is to keep religion out of schools. Is that too much to ask? With religion in schools, it is about politics even if they want to deny it.

See how PAS and UMNO had weighed and waded into this controversy. Would NM think of voting for UMNO again? That youth head is a disgrace - behaving like a loser and picking quarrels with the NM like forever. What is he trying to prove? I dare that guy to stand in a mixed constituency - he will lose, and I will bet my last RM to it.

Look at the Chinese schools. No religious imposition and fully focused on improving the quality of education. Perhaps, that is the reason why Malays are comfortable getting their children educated in Chinese schools. The National Education system is in tatters. Islam, Islam, Islam - don't these people get tired of it at all?

Ok, if they want that, let the NM have their own education system. Why torture and bully the NM and shove down their throats forcefully a system that is "Islamic". The demand for a separate education system for the NM will continue to grow louder if there is no reset for an education system minus the religion - just only committed to educational excellence.

There are so many religious schools, registered and unregistered. If they want religion, let them go there. No one will stop them. The national system is all we have, then why this injustice? My heart is heavy in saying this - the Malays are the most racist,, greedy and self-centred and if there is no value to the NM votes, they won't even bother about the NM.

They can scream and shout for some people thousands of miles away but they are so opposed to ICERD because they are against the NM being equal citizens. It is all about Islam isn't it? Otherwise there won't be this Palestinian week? Let any Malay disprove this. When the Malays have so much hatred, strong enough to oppose ICERD, then please don't ridicule us with this word "humanity".

Do the NM look like fools? And for this to happen - Fadhlina and more so Anwar must go. We need quality educators, not past shadows of ABIM. Very pathetic and tons of excuses. For a person to be a PM of a multiracial country, he must be matured enough to know when to wear the right hat?

Do you think these people are matured enough to understand that? I have this frightening feeling that Anwar would do a lot more damage in this term than was done in all the previous sixty years. Watch the unfolding drama.
