Will the loose cannon of Umno Youth be arrested? By Mariam Mokhtar

Malaysiakini : COMMENT | Will the arson attack on the KK Mart outlet in Bidor, Perak, whack some sense, humility and shame into Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh?

Perhaps, when hell freezes over!

The shocking thing in the socks scandal is despite the many arrests, investigations launched, company ties severed, lawsuits and apologies extended, the loose cannon, namely Akmal, has yet to be detained.

The hate speech he promoted prompted vigilante attacks, leaking of personal data and threats to torch factories, which sadly, made ordinary Malaysians fearful of their security.

To make matters worse, the workers of KK Mart and the companies it does business with have new anxieties to deal with. Their future, their jobs and their livelihood!

What sort of Raya joy did Akmal envisage for the Malay workers of KK Mart and the sock factory in Johor?

His vengeance spells doom not just for the workers of KK Mart and its management but also for local and foreign investors.

So, will Akmal be arrested? Don’t bet on it. He is a rabble-rouser and lucky that no one has yet been injured or killed.

Vijay47 : I must begin with a triviality, Ms Maryam Mokhtar. This Muhamad Akmal Saleh character does not deserve to be referred to, even negatively, as a loose cannon. That phrase of misguided action hardly refers to a person not particularly furnished with intelligence, an uneducated creature who shoots his mouth off along the lines of the village oaf, a role that Muhamad Akmal Saleh has accomplished with considerable success.

He merely spoke in the manner politicians of his limited calibre are wont to – having touched on the subject of race and religion, welcome to people of his upbringing, he suddenly and unexpectedly found himself a hero for an extremist cause. By the way Maryam and to quote your words, Hell must freeze over before I will ever address him as Doctor, a title that evokes visions of professionalism and dignity.

Having experienced our ongoing close encounter with national disaster, should this nondescript crude politician be blamed for the present state of affairs? He started it, for sure, but he did not elevate it to current fruition. That credit must fall squarely on the prime minister and inspector general of police, two officials competing valiantly for the honour of the country’s worst.

Where one chooses to remain silent, the other prefers to issue warnings that he does not act upon or at least act upon with the impartiality his post demands. Is it an accident or intentional that only one side of the equation seems subject to arrest, charge, and imprisonment?

The other half appears protected from even the mildest of reprimands despite well-documented public recordings of their illegal rampages. So what is the lesson to be discerned from these failures? That some are masters and others serfs?

ProMalaysia : Show our displeasure in the coming KKB byelection and show we are disgusted with PMX and Home Minister for allowing umno racist goon goes amok... let PH lose big in KKB byelection to show them do not take the NM votes for granted.
