No Atheists
In A Foxhole

Rudyard Kipling

" “When you're left wounded on
Afganistan's plains and

the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle

and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier”
General Douglas MacArthur

" “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.”
“Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.
“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace,
for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .”
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

“Nobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died.
Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Illustrative Purpose Only

We had to carry the assault boat on our shoulders and run around the whole of the Sungei Udang camp. Your skin on the shoulders comes off.

Memorable and unforgettable incidents during this course, was the raid on a dam in Muar. We were inserted at Bukit Kepong, via the straits of Malacca, by a motorized boat. The motorized boat was towing an aluminum assault boat. Which was for us to paddle up the River Muar. To our target, a notional dam to be blown up.

There were 12 paddles for us to paddle the boat. Once the motorized boat stopped, the towing rope was released. One Special Forces instructor was left with us. Staff Sergeant Muit bin Ahmad PGB, a Valor award recipient. He was to instruct us on paddling the assault boat, all of us were instructed to sit on the gunwale forward of the assault boat.

So as to have less resistance in the water. The River Muar was flowing out towards the sea, pushing us back. We were going upstream. One person was appointed as the navigator to steer us in the correct direction. The rest of us had to paddle in unison. Paddle we did! The distance to Bukit Kepong by the River Muar as the crow flies is 42 kilometers.

We paddled nonstop, our arms felt like dropping off. We were only allowed to take a breather every hour, for 15 minutes. We paddled so long that blisters started appearing on the palms of our hands. It was exhausting, nevertheless we reached the target area. We disembarked from the boat and broke into two groups.

We discussed where to meet up. Our mission was to blow up a dam and escape. The whole mission was to covertly enter into a foreign country, which was scenario painted for us. We successfully completed the mission. Now we had to make it to the extraction point. That was about 30 clicks away. So we had to hurry there, as if we do not make it on time, we might be captured.

There was one whole Squadron of Commandos hunting for us. We moved as swiftly as we could, avoiding all the major settlements. Avoided all major routes. We moved across lakes, rivers, streams and all kinds of obstacles. A Commando Captain was with us all the time as an umpire and instructor.

Soon we were at the rendezvous with about 5 minutes to spare, there was 3 ton truck waiting, we started running. As we ran towards the truck it started moving, we pursued it, it picked up speed and left us panting. Those dirty sadistic motherfuckers!!! We continued on foot.

We trudged and trudged like zombies, our minds numb still alert though. Soon it was evening. We were hungry and needed to cook, there was no fresh water, there was a small pond with brackish water. Looked bloody unhealthy, about a 100 meters away I spotted a coconut tree, which was full of coconuts.

The tree was not very tall. I climbed up the tree and cut off the coconuts. The guys below husked the coconuts split them for the water. Collected enough for quenching our thirst and to cook our rice. All of it was done in a very short space of time. We ate and cleaned up from the brackish stream.

We settled in for the night in a circle with our packs at our heads, everyone was within arms length, when we sleep we do not have sentries. That would keep us alert at the slightest noise we tap each other every one would roll over looking outwards clutching their weapons, ready to engage.

After an hour we moved to another location and ambushed the previous spot where we had lain.
