| 80+ year old Veteran speaks |
The issue has to be viewed from two angles. The rights of the Veterans for streamlining and the Government to pay up. If the payment is not made with the excuse of the Government having no money as it is the right of Veteran to receive the payment.
To find the money is the work of the Government. Our responsibility was to fight against the enemies of the nation. That task has been done, even though I do not have an outstanding record of the work done.
I have experienced the fight in the jungles whilst in service with the Royal Malay Regiment for around 4 years. In the middle of 1962, we did our duties diligently. When we ask for our rights, the Government says there is no money, how can they do that?
The money is in the budget, that should have been distributed evenly and fairly. Are you high ranking officials and Generals willing to receive the pensions as before January 2013, are you prepared? I do not believe you are! The cost of living is beyond that.
We have done our duty as required by the Government, service and the people. We who are beyond our years are still alive, with the will of God. Many of my brethren in arms are not doing well as their pensions cannot support them.
Open your eyes and understand our suffering. Now I am nearly 80 plus years old.I have a difference of RM1000 less compared to others. What about those who have a lower grade than myself. They are suffering more, we just want what is due to us, do not try to spin the story to avoid paying us. The excuse that you do not have money is not a problem for us to bear, it is your responsibility which you are avoiding. You pay to some but not to all of us.
