Muhammad Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, and later Grand Mufti of all Palestine remains one of the most polarizing figures in Middle Eastern history. Rising to prominence during the British Mandate in Palestine, he sought to defend Arab nationalism and resist Zionist expansion, often through controversial means.
It has everything to do with religiously sanctioned Jew hatred.His alliance with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy during World War II, including support for Hitler’s anti-Jewish policies and the recruitment of Muslim SS units, casts a dark shadow over his legacy. While some view him as a nationalist hero fighting for Palestinian sovereignty, others condemn his collaboration with one of history’s most brutal regimes.
