No, You Cannot Slap People During Ramadan

Brainless Moron

No, you cannot slap people outside of Ramadan either. Just thought to make that clear T_T. What's up, Sepupus? Interesting week this week for the month of Ramadan, what with developments in Singapore and with Shanmugam, Afiqah, and Sabrina, and also in Malaysia where an insufferable old man has come out to slap a non-Muslim during the month of Ramadan as a fine expression of his faith and virtue.

That is the sad story of unnamed Johor uncle and Elijah Ling. The slapper and the slapped. Caught together in a pitiful dance of hand and face on the dance floor that was the Angsana Mall Family Mart in JB.

Apparently, our bro, whom we cannot call uncle anymore because he is not worth treating as a human or with any degree of respect, decided that he wanted to be one of those Amar Makruf Nahi Mungkar bros, and in turn decided that this extremely Chinese and very much not Malay looking boy had a possibility of being Muslim and therefore thought somehow that he was in his right to go out and insist that another random citizen show his IC trying to use force in order to get what he wanted.

A fun question. Ever since when was this allowed, and is there any good reason why we as a society should not respond to that in self-defence, and in turn pre-emptive self-defence by slapping back with the force of a hurricane? And what is our political and ministerial class ala Hamimi from Pemuda PAS, Akmal Saleh from UMNO Youth, and Aaron Ago Dagang, our National Unity Minister, doing about any of this?

You see, this man, when he slapped Elijah, he didn't slap just a Chinese boy - who is not just a Chinese boy but a Malaysian - He slapped us all. Our multiracial face. Our concept of a nation. He brought forth the energies of intolerance for anything apart from his own system of values, thinking somehow that he had the right to be infinitely offended when, as it seems, perhaps his right to even walk on the streets should be casually taken away by PDRM because of his casual assault attempt and have his Malaysian citizenship stripped away.

I do want to emphasize that this person, just like the two girls in Singapore, are individual Muslims and there is no indication that their bad behaviour is a direct cause of what they chose to believe in. And I would also mention that members of their own religion and race have also roundly criticized them. And I think that this is healthy, a part of a natural process by which people have come to expect more from their own communities and to try to assert collective ownership over them.

However, I think that it is time for you guys to stop, because such people do not represent you in either a political or religious way, and they should not be construed as doing so in any meaningful way.
