Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong called for a press conference on Saturday (Apr 26) in the midst of the General Election campaigning period to address foreign interference in the upcoming polls. He called for all political parties to make their positions clear on the matter as this “is not a partisan or party matter” but a “matter of national importance”.
“We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society based on justice and equality, so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.”The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) on Friday directed Meta to block Singapore users’ access to several Facebook posts by foreigners who criticised the Singapore government's handling of sensitive religious issues and urged voters to cast ballots along religious lines. Mr Wong also urged Singaporeans to “firmly reject” identity politics, as it will “end up fuelling our worst tendencies, hostilities and vengefulness across society.”
