The Ranger Corps is Older than the Royal Malay Regiment

Based on their lineage, the Ranger Corps is older than the Royal Malay Regiment.

The Royal Ranger Regiment traces its origins back to the 19th-century Sarawak Rangers, while the Royal Malay Regiment was established in the 20th century.  

Ranger Corps lineage

• Sarawak Rangers: The Royal Ranger Regiment's history begins with the formation of the paramilitary Sarawak Rangers in 1863. This was a peacekeeping force in the Sarawak region.
• Malayan Emergency: The name was revived in 1941 as a British colonial unit. Later, during the Malayan Emergency, Iban trackers were organized into a regimental formation as the Sarawak Rangers in 1953.
• Modern Regiment: Following the formation of Malaysia in 1963, the unit was transferred to the new Malaysian Army and expanded into a multi-battalion regiment.
