COMMENT | The upcoming visit of Donald Trump will be another opportunity for extremists to vent. As the Asean chair, Malaysia’s invitation to the US president, as odious as he is, should be a non-issue for rational thinking people.
Calls to revoke the invitation are the craven political plays of local politicians who are very much like the acolytes who support and are enabled by Trump in the US.
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, for instance, belongs in the coterie of toxic and incompetent personalities that Trump places in positions of power.
Supporters of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim (including the religious outfits sanctioned by the state) are bending over backwards attempting to justify Trump’s participation.
OrangePanther1466 : I seldom agree with the Cmdr. In this case I do. If Trump ever land on our shore (he likely to cancel his trip), we should hosts him as a head of state. We can disagree on many things but that's no reason not to be civil.
Besides, the invite to Trump is from Asean, not just Malaysia. Trump is powder keg which can blow up anything and anytime. He could say nice things about Malaysia or condemn us for PMX voracious support for Hamas. It would be very interesting to see the actions of the standard bearer of the American society.
Hassan : You invite the office, not the man The invitation is to the President of the United States of America The man who holds that office at the time of invitation, happens to be Trump As democratically elected by the American people.
You might not like Trump the man, but you have to acknowledge USA the country. I dont like the CEO of a company, but i still invest in it and by products from it, because my relationship is with the company, not the CEO as an individual. Its a diplomatic invitation to the office of the US President.
