He Came, He Saw, He Danced – Akmal’s Missing Trump Protest?

s soon as Trump disembarked from Air Force One, the U.S. president knew he was going to have fun. Even days before his trip to the Asean Summit on October 26, the agendas had been set between Washington and Kuala Lumpur. There would be only handshakes, praises and diplomatic compliments. Compared with European Union, Canada, Latin America or China, Trump loves ASEAN.

Donald Trump had been briefed that all the Southeast Asian leaders were eager to meet him, shake his hand, rub shoulders with the world’s most powerful man, sign his tariff deals, and queue for the once-in-a-lifetime photo-op. Not a single country in the region would dare criticize the world’s biggest economy, even after Trump slapped tariffs on them. Asean was an easy meat for the U.S.

Claiming to have stopped “eight wars in eight months”, the U.S. president also saw the opportunity to add a trophy in the Thailand-Cambodia peace deal. Upon landing at around 10am on Sunday (Oct 26), both Trump and host, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, shared a shimmy and shake to the tune of Hawaii Five-O before the U.S. president suddenly started dancing to local music on the red carpet.
