Minister has no business issuing threats against Dolla, says Latheefa

Malaysiakini : Lawyer Latheefa Koya has hurled brickbats at Na’im Mokhtar over his threats of syariah offence charges against Dolla member Wan Sabrina Wan Rusli, better known as Sabronzo, for her outfit in a music video.

Without mincing words, Latheefa (above) said the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for religious affairs has no business making such threats, adding that ministers cannot investigate or prosecute citizens.

“Prosecutions, whether civil or syariah, can only be decided by the prosecuting authority, after a fair and impartial investigation by the relevant investigative bodies.

GP2025 : Exactly! And using the weight of government to bully a young woman who is just doing her thing! Not the minister’s job to moral police people, especially defenceless youngsters. The govt should protect them not find a way to get them in trouble! What kind of people are these madani blokeys!

JusticeNow! : Naim is behaving like a dictator giving orders and threats through the media! He is acting like he is the Ayatolah! PH better do something about this un-elected before he ruined whatever chances of re-election they have. An unelected official has NO accountability.

Salvage Malaysia : The Madani style of control, control, control is totally contradictory to their 6 core values. There’s no tolerance nor compassion. Commoners do one mistake, the brunt of the law comes to you. 

Ministers blundered big time, swept under the carpet. The era of Government knows best is long gone. It’s an obsolete concept. Even the late Tun Badawi practised the concept of Madani way better than this Madani Govt.

Shaggadag : Can anyone.kindly explain to me the purpose of this gentleman's existence? What has he contributed to society? But more importantly, what exactly is his portfolio as a Minister? 

Would that involve hurling unprovoked insults at young ladies whose only crime is having become popular in the entertainment business, contributing far more to society than this gentleman could ever do. 

If this is the case, then perhaps our dear Madani government ought to consider dismantling the entire ministry as being purposeless and pointless and instead re-allocating the collosal budget to something more worthwhile - like teaching kids properly.

DonGetMeWrong : In so far as Malaysian society is concerned it is getting too islamic for NM to swallow. Every now and then religious issue take center stage so much so it is affecting NM too. 

Over zealous religious bigots is making the most noise albeit majority that are peace loving and are more concerned about economic issue and how to put food on the table . 

The whole problem is the Madani govt is giving carte blanche to these bigots to intimidate, abuse and harass citizens that has not done anything wrong.

Sherlock : Playing God? Please do something useful for the society, after getting so much salary from the taxpayers. To begin with, please bring the various religions together, living and working for the country in a civil manner, instead of hoisting Islam against everyone else.

apanama is back : Exactly! Yesterday I mentioned, "Selectively portraying oneself as holier than thou has become a menace and a nuisance to the current administration. With this backdoor minister who has nothing to do, he keeps on looking for something to be relevant." 

This minister is a waste and redundant beside his moral policing narrative, which he will selectively impose on others. I never heard Na'im comment on GISBH activities and their sentences and fines, which are lenient because they are the same. 

Ma'im is becoming a menace and nuisance to our multiracial society, and the PM will 'buat bodoh' and keep quiet, as usual and as always, giving his tacit blessing for whatever Na'im will utter.
