'No compromise' - DAP's UEC push hits Akmal roadblock

Malaysiakini : Since its resounding defeat in the Sabah polls, DAP has pledged to push for reforms, with one key issue being the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Unsurprisingly, opposition came swiftly from Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, who took it upon himself to give DAP deputy chairperson Nga Kor Ming a refresher on the nation’s education policy.

This was in response to Nga, who is also the housing and local government minister, stating that DAP would seek a meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim over UEC’s recognition. Akmal “implored” Anwar not to recognise the UEC, but simultaneously warned that “we will not compromise” on this matter.

Fast forward 60 years and it is still being used as a tool to control as considered now the minorities. Joining together with them is Pas, who have brought in even religion. Today the minorities who were at one time represented a population of 50 per cent have been reduced to not more than 30 per cent. 

Many have left our shores and joining them have also being many Malays, who are fed up with what is happening around them. Today Sarawak and now Sabah have joined the process of being wanting to decide for themselves, the future direction of their nation or State as they called it. 

Umno and even Pas should by now realize that the people are fed up with their race and religious agenda. UEC have been accepted by both these nations and not forgetting many of our minority race have moved South of the border seeking a better future. Singapore also recognizes the UEC Certificate. 

The nation have lost much talent to the other nation's, just because of not only their race and religious agenda, but also due to their stubbornness to accept the UEC Certificate. UEC certificate does not posses a threat to the education system in this nation. Not depriving the majority of their employment in the govt sphere or their place in the Universities. 

It is just used as a political tool to hoodwink and put fear in the hearts of the Majority race. As LKY knew 60 years ago, that Umno will use race to put fear in the hearts of the Malays and now they are still playing the race card. Have they not learnt anything from the past history. Singapore left them. Sarawak and Sabah wants to rule themselves and they want nothing to do with this race and religious agenda. 

30 per cent of the population have left the nation and there are still many leaving for greener pastures and also be far away from this race and religious nightmare of an agenda. Will Akmal, Umno or Pas wake up, before it is to late.
