Malaysiakini : COMMENT | Sixty-eight years after independence, Malaysia stubbornly refuses to drop the race argument when power is redistributed.
The appointment of Hannah Yeoh as minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) has again triggered familiar anxieties.
Not about governance, accountability, or unchecked development, but about ethnicity and religion. That instinctive response says less about Yeoh than it does about how poorly we understand where power actually lies in Kuala Lumpur.
The federal territories portfolio is not ceremonial. It is one of the most politically volatile briefs in government.
Kuala Lumpur is under intense development pressure. Residents are increasingly vocal about density and displacement, and civil society groups have long warned that the city adopts a governance model that concentrates power rather than disperses it.
Iceman : "Child marriage reforms stalled not because of one minister’s views but because of religious-political sensitivities" Yeah, no prize for guessing which party advocates for Child Marrriage Bill to be stopped in the Parliament. Oh the irony of wanting people to wear clothes covering head to toe but salivate at minor girls as potential brides.
Hmmmmmmmm : Me thinks that Hannah was removed as Sports Minister because she didn't want to play ball with the relevant parties and help cover up the scandal?
She had mentioned that FAM will have to use their own funds to defend themselves and also that no funds will be given to them until this mess is cleared up.
Read it all here......She also ordered a probe into the athletics association for not selecting athletes who qualified for the ongoing SEA Games. Perhaps she has stepped on too many toes for just doing her job. Perhaps some people prefer a minister who plays ball.
Knucklehead : Plain insecurity, the MM are just afraid of their own shadow! So so afraid a NM can do a better job - that simple!
TC : Umno Duzuki is also shouting like Pas too. Both are equally racists politicians. Malays fail or fear not by nature but being manipulated by their own kind Why do Singaporean malays never fear or fail but can stand proudly on their own.
