American’s Samurai - The 442nd Infantry - Most Decorated Unit of WW2


Read the book Hawaii James A Michener. The 1944 ‘Lost Battalion” rescue that earned the 442nd over 4,000 Purple Hearts by rescuing the Texans who were about to be annhilated by the Germans. In October 1944, 275 Texas soldiers sat trapped in the French mountains, surrounded by 6,000 Nazi troops. Two rescue attempts had already failed.

Then came the 442nd, a unit of Japanese American soldiers who had been fighting racism at home while serving their country abroad. Against impossible odds, they fought through six brutal days to save men who might not have welcomed them in peacetime. General Dahlquist Sent Texans Into a Trap The next day, Major General John Dahlquist ordered the 1st Battalion of the 141st Texas Regiment to advance four miles beyond friendly forces. 

The 275 Texans warned they would get cut off, but Dahlquist ignored his advisors and pushed them forward anyway. Germans let the battalion pass through their lines, then attacked from behind and sealed every escape route. Within hours, 6,000 fresh German troops moved into the area with Hitler’s personal orders to hold at any cost.
