Malaysiakini : COMMENT | Is the Madani government failing to restore peace and stability in our multireligious society by allowing unscrupulous individuals to continue weaponising religious sentiments against other faiths?
The sequence of events unfolding today, where irresponsible groups openly challenge the rule of law by threatening to demolish a temple, is a grave threat to national peace and harmony. This is not a minor issue. It is a direct assault on the foundations of our constitutional democracy.
Are we to believe that the government has no control over such elements? Or worse, are they deliberately allowing this to happen? These groups are openly advertising their intentions in public forums and across social media, instigating others to gather and demolish a place of worship.
This is a clear breach of Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Yet, no visible action has been taken.
KNSamy : The current MADANI government seems to be keen just to get the support of the Muslims in this country, as it is trying to gain their votes as they are in the majority.
Many governments before this - helmed by UMNO and BN - just ignored the temple problems - especially the ownership of land - but gave out allocations as long as the temple managements promised to vote for them in elections.
Local councils just kept its eyes closed, electricity and water connections were given by the agencies. The Registrar of Societies conveniently allowed temples that were not in their own land to register as Persatuan Penganut as opposed to Persatuan Pengurusan for those who sat on their own land.
The ROS stipulated that Persatuan Penganut should not administer or manage temples as they are justan association of devotees. Annual reports and accounts that showed these Persatuan Penganuts actually manage the temples were never questioned by the ROS - but just closed an eye due to political considerations.
Suddenly this 'political consideration' seems missing, especially when some elements in our society started using the new converts into Islam from Hinduism to belittle and 'attack' the temples branding them as 'illegal'. An the Indian convert had left Hinduism, he becomes very brave and loud as his cheer-leaders are many.
Where are the government leaders, especially the top Muslim leaders? They seem to support this, as they may be thinking this exercise will quicken the decrease the number of Hindu temples in the country without the government having to bear much responsibility!
Read it all here......MADANI talks about Compassion, Respect and Trust - as found in PMX's SCRIPT! They are supposed to uphold Rukun Negara!! On all accounts the MADANI leaders have failed miserably as they have just surrendered to the few groups that are taking the law in their own hands!
