Malaysiakini : “If perception cannot be changed, then after six months we must make a decisive decision, but that decision does not mean we intend to let the government fall - absolutely not.”
– DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke
COMMENT | As reported in the press, Anthony Loke, the big cheese of DAP, said last December after the shellacking the party received in the Sabah state polls that, “If Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim fails to deliver meaningful reforms within the next six months, DAP will reassess its role in the government.”
Mind you, he was quick to add, “After six months, whatever decision we make, we’ve already informed the prime minister that we will not withdraw our support for him, at least until the next general election.” Jelutong MP RSN Rayer believes that people are getting impatient with Madani’s slow pace of reforms.
Funny, because this is the same MP who said, "Prime minister, I observe that the measures rolled out to reform governance and administration are actively being implemented by the government today.
Dr Peter Jebaseelan Jesudason : UMNO in all probability would have been declared illegal by the ROS because of illegally postponing the mandatory Presidential elections. Anwar saw to it that UMNO was spared from closing down by invoking section 70 of Societies Act.
Anwar was eternally grateful to Zahid for bringing in UMNO into the pact to enable Madani to be formed. It was a poisoned chalice which Anwar accepted with alacrity because he would not allow anything to get in the way of him achieving his life's ambition of being Prime Minister.
The DNAAs which followed was I suspect a quid pro quo arrangement between Anwar and Zahid. DAP was a party which became directionless and lacking in moral authority once the iconic Karpal Singh departed us. Power became its overriding aim not principle or serving the best interest of the Rakyat.
Anthony Loke, the SG of DAP rushed to Kuching to make an apology for any remarks DAP leaders may have made which offended GPS, such was the humiliation DAP was put though in order to form Madani. Guan Eng the most senior DAP leader was not offered cabinet position by Anwar and DAP was offered only 4 ministerial positions despite having the largest number of seats in parliament within PH.
From the outset , DAP happily accepted the humiliation because of the self serving nature of its politicians. Anthony Loke's statement after the Sabah election humiliation, that DAP would re-evaluate its position in Madani after 6 months if there were no meaningful reforms, however would not let Anwar's government fall, is the very reason why DAP sees itself continually being humiliated and ignored by Anwar.
Anwar has made it a priority to appease and puff up UMNO at all cost, even at the expense of his own PKR, allowing it to fester and implode. The formation of Bersama is the result of Anwar being a traitor to Reformasi. From the outset, Anwar sidelined and humiliated Rafizi by offering him the inconsequential Economic Minister post and giving the powerful Home Minster position to his rival Nasution who humiliatingly lost the seat he contested in the GE.
He entered parliament through the back door by being appointed a senator by Anwar. The engineered PKR elections for Rafizi to lose, was the final straw. DAP is a victim of our political culture of systemic corruption. The Rakyat has been repeated been hoodwinked and betrayed by our politicians who have abused our trust for far too long.
DAP is now hoping to hold on to its seats by assuming the Chinese are going to stick by it because they have no choice. Chinese have pride and DAP would do well to prepare themselves for a repeat of the " Sabah Effect " in the peninsula. The Chinese, because of their disgust with the DAP will either stay at home, vote Bersama or even vote PAS is protest.
On the Other Hand : UMNO with 26 seats, could achieve everything it wanted in the Unity Government, which includes positions at the top of the Judiciary, and AGC, DNAAs galore, and NFAs.
DAP with 40 seats achieved NOTHING, and worse had NM rights trampled upon, and taken away, under its watch, without a whimper or squeak. All its MPS achieved was their personal perks and pensions. PKR under Madani was the great betrayer of Reform.
They had 31 seats, which is 5 more than UMNO, yet UMNO was gifted with major Ministerial posts, policy making and get-out -of jail free cards. Islam was stuffed down the throats of non-Muslims, and taxpayers money was distributed in an even more unfair manner, with billions being given to Muslims, and Muslims only, while non-muslims had their temples and churches curtailed or demolished, pig farms removed, and Halal certification waved like a sword above their heads.
Read it all here......Using the excuse that this was a Unity Government and therefore the DAP was unable to do anything for the NMs, holds no water, and is a blatant lie, as UMNO was able to get everything they wanted, with significantly less MPs. The Sec-Gen of the DAP needs to go, and soonest. As for the snake-oil salesman PMX, the less said the better.
