Malaya: Rumbles in the Jungle | Britain's Forgotten Wars with Tony Robinson

Tony Robinson, previously known for Blackadder and Time Team, looks back at 1948, when a decade-long guerrilla war started against British occupation. The result was a new independent country - Malaysia.

There was an even more forgotten conflict in the region the Indonesian confrontation where Indonesian and commwealth forces were fighting an undeclared war in Borneo in the 1960s. My 2nd post. I grew up in Malaya during that time. In 1954 through to 1957, my parents and I lived in Ipoh.

Periodically , Australian airforce Lincoln Bombers would arrive over Ipoh at around 7.00 a.m. and drop bombs into an area of Limestone Hills north of the town. We witnessed this fron an upstairs window of our house in Jalan Woidward. The bomb ecplosions would rattle the windows of the house. It left a lasting impression in my memory. I often wonder just what those bombs hit. (If anything.)

The Malayan campaign, the ‘ Konfrontasi ‘ launched by Sukarno against Malaysia,…not all quite as obscure or forgotten as Tony might suppose, here in South East Asia.
