No Atheists
In A Foxhole

Rudyard Kipling

" “When you're left wounded on
Afganistan's plains and

the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle

and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier”
General Douglas MacArthur

" “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”

“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.”
“Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.
“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace,
for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .”
“The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.

“Nobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died.
Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."

Experience in conflict-battered Bosnia changed my value on peace - army veteran
Tuesday, September 01, 2026

Malaysiakini : Witnessing firsthand the devastation and aftermath of the war between Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina over three decades ago profoundly changed the perspective of Yasin Usop on the value of the peace enjoyed by Malaysians.

Yasin, 69, said serving as a United Nations military observer in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1994 exposed him to the harsh realities of a conflict driven by ethnic and religious divisions, including mortar attacks, armed threats, and gunfire.

The experience, he said, deepened his appreciation for the peace, harmony, and unity that Malaysians continue to enjoy despite living in a multicultural and multi-religious society.

“Malaysians should be grateful because, despite living in a plural society comprising diverse races and religions, we are still able to live in peace and harmony,” he told Bernama recently.

One of his most unforgettable experiences occurred when he lost contact with the UN headquarters for about nine hours after his position came under mortar fire while he was on duty in Petrovo Selo, in the western part of the Bihac Pocket.

Veteran 1972 : So whilst in the army what did you do about the denigrating of the other races and their respective faiths. Tried converting them to your faith? Forcing the Non Muslims to raise their hands for your saying of the "grace".

With the attitude the majority have it can become a reality here in Malaysia, especially East Malaysia. Yea, tell me about that. Not some feel good message, that makes you feel good. Not forgetting about the burning down of the cross by Malaysian troops!

Malaysia says burning of cross unintentional, only when their balls were held to the fire. What happened: Two Malaysian soldiers from the Malbatt Command burned a cross on a hillside  1994. The two U.N. soldiers burned the Catholic cross between July 15 and 20 on a hillside near Bosnian Croat-controlled Kiseljak, about 15 miles (25 km) northwest of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo.

The aftermath: Malaysia stated the action was unintentional. Resolution: Two Christian Malaysian soldiers of the Malbatt Command replaced the 3-yard cross Friday on the hillside near Citonje. in a ceremony attended by local community leaders, UN Protection Force officials, and Bosnian Croat military.

The ones who saved the day were the Non Malays of other faiths. Observers are paid USD140 per day. Whereas normal infantry units soldiers are paid USD990 per month.  The unit involved you can guess, the Non Muslims were attachments from the support elements. Had the Serbs retaliated, the outcome would have been devastating.  Source
