Rudyard Kipling"
“When you're left wounded on Afganistan's plains and
the women come out to cut up what remains, Just roll to your rifle
and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier”
General Douglas MacArthur"
“We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
“It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it.” “Old soldiers never die; they just fade away.
“The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and be the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't .” “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.
“Nobody ever defended, there is only attack and attack and attack some more.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.
The Soldier stood and faced God
Which must always come to pass
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as bright as his brass
"Step forward you Soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't
Because those of us who carry guns
Can't always be a saint."
I've had to work on Sundays
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny
That wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
The Soldier squared his shoulders and said
And I never passed a cry for help
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod
As the Soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, you Soldier,
You've borne your burden well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
Is Bersama the solution Malaysians need but do not want? By Commander S THAYAPARAN (Retired) Royal Malaysian Navy
Monday, October 12, 2026
Malaysiakini : “He didn’t say it in front of me, but behind me, he would say, ‘If we follow Rafizi’s mind, no one will vote for us, so we cannot do this because the rakyat will be angry.’”
- Former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli
COMMENT | Of course, Bersama wants to make Selangor its home base. Former Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung hopes that Selangor “… voters give us that room to imagine what is possible.”
This is either inspiring or delusional, considering how entrenched Selangor voters are in their fear of the green wave.
Meanwhile, PAS and the deep Islamic state also have their eyes on Selangor. Not only is it the most economically prosperous state but also one which they believe, like Penang, is a stronghold of non-Muslim political power and an impediment to hegemonic religious rule.
This is why every opportunity is made to introduce religious dogma into the personal and public spaces of Selangorians, and race and religious hustlers have attempted to undermine the unity of the state for decades.
Whatever my criticisms of former economy minister Rafizi Ramli, he has publicly made it clear that when he returned to PKR after his self-imposed exile, he believed that the party should rely on its multiethnic base instead of not spooking the Malays, which he has flirted with before.
He has publicly acknowledged that politicians may need to make tough and unpopular decisions for the rakyat’s interest.
darmakochi : Commander, I completely agree with you. Our nation badly needs a political change! MADANI government seems to be reacting to the events happening in our nation instead of introducing a proper political change for our multiracial nation.
AyamKambingBack: IF Bersama has the will and commitment to right the wronged, busturdized, oppressive, discriminative DEB/NDP/Whatever name, where a majority race has total advantage over the other minorities, which is similar to the infamous Apartheid system, then it is a NEED and WANT !!!
mk follower : When will Malaysiakini change its comment column back to its previous format ? Is the present change an improvement? If not , why the change then ?
darmakochi: Dear Malaysiakini, please (a thousand times) revert to the previous format. Do it as fast as possible. We MUST see our earlier comments to be consistent with our stand. A 1000 pleases!
HJ Angus : yes, I prefer the previous format too. If no changes, will not renew in March.
Zaheed : Bersama seem to be the best and viable option for Malaysia. Both the existing government and the opposition have failed and have no clear plans and policies for the future of our children.
Their only forte is to blatantly play up the race and religious cards with no consideration for the social reprecussions of their actions. They are also not there in solving the economic problems faced by the Rakyat. On the other hand, Bersama brings much hope in solving the problems faced by everyday Malaysians.
They bring to light the existence of corrupt and opportunistic political culture practiced by the the present set of politicians and their parties. Way to go Bersama. Thank you for your effort and we are all for you.
