Malaysia: Islamic event attended by 16,000 Muslims was ground zero for coronavirus outbreak in Southeast Asia

Jihad Watch : An “Islamic evangelical event held in Malaysia late last month has emerged as the ground zero for the coronavirus outbreak in South East Asia. 11 out of 12 people who tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus on March 16 in Cambodia had attended the Islamic evangelical event in Malaysia.”

What makes this particularly troubling is that some prominent Muslim clerics are encouraging Muslims to continue attending large gatherings, reminding them that the “Quran promises a martyr’s reward for the faithful who trust in Allah despite pestilence like Covid-19.”

The name of the “Islamic evangelical event” in Malaysia is Tablighi Ijtema, which is is a part of  Tablighi Jamaat — “a global Islamic missionary movement which urges Muslims to return to the way Islam was practiced during the time of Prophet Muhammad.”
