Umno veep: No deal with PAS on 27 seats

Malaysiakini : PAS has failed to meet the conditions outlined by Umno for both parties to work together in the upcoming general election, according to Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Therefore, the former Johor menteri besar expected both parties to clash in 27 overlapping parliamentary seats. The cooperation between Umno and PAS will automatically fall when PAS failed to accept the three conditions set by party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, he said.

"If there is no cooperation with PAS, then both parties will compete (in 27 seats)," Khalid was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian during the Umno supreme council meeting yesterday.

On Oct 2, Zahid outlined three conditions that PAS must meet if it wants to continue working with Umno. The conditions were for PAS to sever political ties with Bersatu, exit the Perikatan Nasional coalition and also announce publicly that it has mufaraqah (leave a congregation) from Bersatu and PN.

Bersatu had already declared that Umno-led BN was PN's main enemy in GE15, contradicting PAS’ stance that the enemy was Pakatan Harapan. PAS reiterated that the party would continue its efforts to unite the ummah, by bringing together the three core Malay-based parties ahead of GE15.
