Malaysiakini : Prominent economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram urged the opposition to explore the possibility of working together in the forthcoming general election (GE15) despite their differences.
This can be achieved through an electoral understanding without resorting to a more time-consuming electoral pact - or to the extent of inking an electoral agreement, he opined. He, however, pointed out that the challenge before them was that some in the opposition itself were aimed at dividing them.
Jomo, a former member of Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) under the previous Pakatan Harapan administration, said the opposition needed to set aside their differences in order to form a united front. "Of course, there are some within the opposition who harbour an intention to split the opposition.
"Apart from these people, those who are genuine should find a way to unite the opposition and this can be achieved via an electoral understanding. "If they are serious about giving a choice to the people and community, they should work together and respect differences to ensure a victory and offer an alternative to the people,” he told Malaysiakini when commenting on the possible cooperation between the opposition parties to face GE15.
Yesterday, PKR communication director Fahmi Fadzil clarified that his party has no intention of cooperating with Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).
IndigoSwan6963 : None is to blame as Malaysians are just like a herd of cattle and had been mislead blindly by the cowboys of the day. No single party will dominate this coming election. As far as the non malays are concerned, it does matter to them but does it matters when BN/PN/and other race based parties govern?
Forget about MIC or MCA. They are history as far as I am concern. The country will continue to spiral downwards with race base ideologies which no matter who wins, the non malays will always end up losing. As long as the politics of the day does not respect and treat all as one and equal, we can still continue to talk until the cow comes home.
apanama is back : Looks like Jomo knows something is brewing since he knows this country very well. Let us give him some benefit of doubt. In fact, the oppositions are not committing each other. He gave a simple example. We have only one aim. Focus on that aim. Kick UMNO Baru out!
Reject kleptocrats! If this (collaboration of ALL oppositions) is the only way to save this country, let's do it. Sometime principles should take behind sit if the nation's future is at stake. If you ask me, "äpanama, are you suggesting GE14 strategy”? I will say, YES. Why?
Because in GE14 we are together to stop the kleptocrats and now we are also wanted to stop kleptocrats. Sometime the same scenario may require the same strategy. If UMNO Baru win, do not blame the people, blame ALL the opposition parties. Look at how UMNO Baru, MIC and MCA get together even though it is just master-servant relationship.
Because they want to win. Opposition parties do not want to win? Hold tight with principles and consensus? My foot! Ask ourselves two questions.
1) Can Harapan with PKR, DAP, Amanah and Upko confident enough to win Putrajaya? So far, I do not see any statement in this effect.
2) If BN wins, what the opposition parties going to do?
If you do not want this to happen, go back to question one. We do not have much choices here. Maybe one and the only one. Love and hate could be there but ex-husband and ex-wife could still be friend. Your enemy’s enemy is your friend. It is that simple. Remember, nation comes first! The rest, "belakang kira".
Headhunter : Jumo is right. For once the opposition should put their narrow individual party objectives aside and come to an understanding to defeat the BN. I think there is a good chance that if a united front can be formed, it is possible for the opposition to form a new government.
Read it all here, subscription required.......This is one general election that the people want to express their anger more than any fancy manifesto that the opposition can dangle in front of us. It's all about a stolen government, corrupt leaders draining our money, rising cost of living, abuse of power and injustice. They affect everyone in the country one way or another.
