Teachers should help young pupils who are unable to fast - minister

Our Clueless Education Minister

Malaysiakini : Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has called on teachers to play a role in identifying Muslim pupils, especially in Year One, who are fasting but show signs of struggle to complete the ritual.

Fadhlina reportedly said there were parents who asked their Year One children to fast while at school but many end up tired and unable to do it. "There must be monitoring done in schools.

"If teachers see that a child is dehydrated or has health issues or is not ready to fast, I asked them to discuss with the parents of the pupils involved," she was quoted as saying by News Straits Times after a breaking fast function at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Engineering Campus' Islamic Centre in Nibong Tebal, Penang, last night.

Fadhlina said this when asked for comments on a viral Twitter thread yesterday that inquired how to officially lodge a complaint against a school administration that purportedly forced students as young as seven to fast. The thread that also mentioned the Nibong Tebal MP also prompted similar inquiries or complaints from other concerned parents with children in other schools.

"Parents and teachers must communicate and find the best way to teach the children the proper process of fasting," she said.

Well Thats Fantastic :Who can spell indoctrination?

Maimun : Until now you don't have an idea on where you want to go? No policy and original thinking! Taking it one step at a time as if managing!

We need a minister with foresight and will power to push thru! Just resign, because you are DSAI's downfall!!! Your Napoleon's are running your ministry, that is for sure!

Cyclonus : The age of compulsory fasting by Muslims is when they have reached puberty. So, why force them to fast at so young an age?

They will be physically weak, unable to concentrate at school and worse - not even comprehend the reason for fasting other than forced on by their parents and/or school authorities.

The practise of religion should be left within the confines of home and oneself. No need for the school or authorities to be moral police.

apanama is back : Why not make it NO fasting for Year One students. The Year One students could learn to fast during their off days at home with the guidance and monitoring under their respective parents.

There is no need to burden the teachers to monitor each and every Year One students. Teachers are already burdened with teaching and administrative works. Now you are giving them monitoring job. Alamak!
