On Hari Raya, Najib's daughter rues 'meaningless' celebration without him

Malaysiakini : “This Hari Raya has no meaning for us as a family because our father is not by our side. I am affected by what has happened to him, that now he is forced to celebrate alone in prison.”

So lamented Nooryana Najib, the daughter of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who's currently serving a 12-year-jail term for corruption. Taking to social media, Nooryana shared the "sombre" atmosphere of her family's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations this year - the first since Najib's incarceration in August last year.

“As it nears Hari Raya, Yana would usually help pick the colour of ayah’s (father) shirt. We, as a family, will also get clothes that match that colour.  “Ayah would remind us to prepare his favourite rendang to eat with Mak Wan’s lemang recipe from ibu’s (mother) side (of the family) in Seremban," Nooryana reminisced in a one minute and 30 seconds video slideshow depicting photographs of the family's previous Raya celebrations.

“Before Raya, we would visit our grandparents’ graves. On Raya morning, we would salam (greet one another) and ask for forgiveness. Everyone must be present for a family photo. There is none of that this year. “What is the meaning of Raya for us without ayah? Where is the joy, in this year’s family photo?

“This year’s Raya means nothing to us anymore,” Nooryana rued.

Mujaheed : Baru kamu tahu berapa perit nya hari raya tanpa ayah, bagai mana pulak dengan orang2 yg bapa kamu nyakana dengan tudahan palsu. Kamu sekarang pon hidup mewah dengan duit haram yg bapa kamu ambil. Ramai rakyat yg merana dengan perbuatan ayah mu.

guuunner : We suffered for so many years since 2014 because of Najib, and we are still suffering as a result of it now. 12 yrs, you gotta suffer for as long if not more to even out millions of us suffering.

Koel : Well, Yana, yours is the lament of every family with a convict family member. But you should think of other families where people do not have the resources to sew matching outfits or even have a proper meal.

Many families also have no money, food and jobless family members. And many is the family that are affected by the country's economic problems. They are affected because evil men in high places stole billions of taxpayer monies to buy expensive property, birkins and jewellery.

So show some dignity, shame and remorse even if it is hard for you. Just shut up and go eat your fabulous meals while sitting in your mansion. Enough playing victim. We are all full up here.
